5 things you should know about BBW

Updated: Mar 28, 2020

1. BBW is spearheaded by Randy and Paula Lobiano

We’re a husband and wife tandem. Five years ago, we were also a bride and groom. But our partnership goes way back. We love doing shoots and working things together, and after we got married, we decided to team up for BBW.

Below are some photos that we were able to keep from our first shoot:

2. Their lives outside wedding photography

  • I am a Political Science graduate with major in Local Governance. I took it because I thought I could be a good lawyer. Haha!

  • I am a thrifter, I think I’ve been for the past three years. I enjoy seeking out interesting things from the past and giving it a new life. It also helps in reducing our footprint too and makes me one less person who contributes to fast fashion. I also enjoy listening to music, so discovering vinyl again and the sound quality it produces feels so amazing.

  • My pastime is fishing, that’s my reset button. After a series of weddings especially during the “Ber” months (which is the peak season for weddings), I make it a point to have at least three days out on the beach or a lake, go fishing from morning till sunset, and grab a beer afterward.

  • Paula’s passion is our son Randall, since he is our firstborn, she’s focused on him.

  • Paula loves cooking and travelling, but she's more of a tourist, while I am more of a traveller. :) As husband and wife, we always want to travel or go out once every quarter.

3. They had their own careers before deciding to go with their passion

  • I was a former Head hunter, as an IT Recruitment consultant for more than 8 years before deciding to resign and become a photographer

  • Paula is a Nursing graduate but never had a chance to practice it, now she works remotely for an IT company based in Brisbane, Australia

4. Turning point for finally deciding to pursue wedding photography

I was a freelance wedding photographer for other studios since 2012, although my day job was still my priority. One time, while I was working as a technical recruiter, I needed to recruit a person to fill the position of Vice President for Finance. I was able to find someone fit for the job and closed the requirement. That kind of job gave me a sense of fulfilment because, at the back of my head, I'm helping people secure jobs. It's like matchmaking companies who need people, and people who need jobs. But while I was doing that job, I suddenly realized, how come I am giving a good life to other individuals but I can't give myself a good one? It always felt like I needed to go to the office just for the sake of it, and I was dragging myself to work every single day. Unlike when I go to a shoot, especially for weddings, I always look forward to it and make sure I arrive on time regardless if I had a drink and went home late the night before.

So right after I helped a person land the VP for Finance position, I resigned from my day job and never looked back.

5. Inspiration for Big Bliss Weddings

I have always been inspired by street photography - where everything is captured as it is, and it is my role as a photographer to present it the best way possible through photographs. I didn’t know that shooting that way was “a style” until I was able to work for MangoRed Studios. They have mastered the art of taking unique photos, without having to compose the subjects. It was through them that I was able to improve taking unfiltered photos, and without thinking too much but also still not taking the same shots for different couples/scenarios. It was a combination of my interest in street photography and my training with MangoRed, that I have learned the art of storytelling through photos, and that by treating every image as a work of art that can stand by itself. I try to apply this to weddings as much as I can, because no two weddings are alike, neither can 2 couples be alike. I’d like my photos to be my gift to them, where every moment is captured beautifully, like a piece of art - unfiltered, natural, just as it is.
